A message in connection to the outpouring of Lakeland FL.

and a brief teaching on the different operations of the Anointing

By Rev. George E. Markakis, Athens, Hellas.

The original was written 8 May 2008. This entry into the Journal was revised on 21 Aug 2008, after the end of the outpouring.

Here is what flows out of my spirit to share in connection to that wonderful move of God. This is a message for mature believers in, and experienced disciples of, Jesus Christ ONLY. It is a message that aims at helping us understand what is happening, what is the nature of this move of God, and how to maintain a balanced perspective in our lives as we walk with God.

Hindsight comment: the key is to maintain a balanced perspective.

I have seen videos of what is happening at Lakeland; it is a genuine, revolutionary, anti-religious, beautiful move of the Lord, similar to what took place in Pensacola few years ago. I have been to Pensacola; I saw what was outpoured there. Wonderful, fantastic and exceptional the move of God was at Pensacola; however what the Lord told me when I was there gave me a different perspective. I later heard testimonies that bear witness to what the Lord told me.

Hindsight comment: as much as it is wonderful to see the Hand of God at work, it is more significant to understand what the Lord is saying through it.

On the occasion of the outpouring at Lakeland, He reminded me the principles He taught me through Pensacola, and motivated me to write this article to make those principles known to others, too.

Among other things, when I was in Pensacola the Lord spoke through John 5:1-15. I can bear witness to this: the outpouring at Pensacola was like in Bethesda, by the Sheep Gate, in Jerusalem, where “the angel was coming down to stir the waters”. Bethesda means House of Mercy (or, Grace according to other sources; both reveal the same principle, that God pours out His healing nature unconditionally, because of Who He is, because of His Mercy and Grace). I believe the outpouring at Lakeland is of the same river from God.

Hindsight comment: the outpouring in Lakeland was no more than an angel coming down from heaven to stir the waters of a stagnant church.

There are such outpourings of God's MERCY & GRACE in order to DRAW in the people closer to Himself. What people call outpouring, or, awakening, is like the Lord’s angel coming down from heaven to stir up the waters of His Church. Then, every one, any one, can jump in and be refreshed ... unconditionally, and that is fantastic!!!

Except, that there is a little problem; many of them would need another outpouring to be refreshed again at a later time! That is the part that is not so good, and what the Lord wants to fix in our lives.

Hindsight comment: It will be interesting to observe if there will be a lasting effect in people’s lives resulting from the Lakeland outpouring.

It is interesting that in John 5, the outpouring of God's mercy & grace was happening by the Sheep Gate, i.e. such awakenings are primarily for the sheep. The healing came through the stirring of the waters – that would be the Word of God, or, perhaps the Holy Spirit (or both combined). There was also a structure over the pool, supported by 5 pillars, hence, 5 porches. That would be the 5 ministries, which provide the structure over the pool – that would be the Church that contains the water (Word of God).

Indeed, the outpouring of Pensacola, and now of Lakeland, are mainly for the sheep – in line with the symbolism of John 5:1-15. The Sheep Gate is Jesus, and the healing poured out at that Gate was preparing the way for the understanding that through the gateway of Jesus we can receive healing from the Father above. All that is indeed wonderful and a great blessing, for which we thank the Lord!

However, there is one more important symbolism contained in that passage, which is not as positive. The place was filled up by people who were sick, lame, blind, paralyzed… I am sure we understand what that symbolism stands for, as the Church is indeed full of such people, more as a spiritual state than physical. God loves all those people, and He is pouring out His Mercy and Grace unconditionally to heal them!

Halleluyah for that! At the same time, one needs to wonder: is that the only thing that Jesus died for? To heal the multitudes of spiritually sickly, blind and paralyzed sheep? Did He not also die in order to build a glorious Church, without blemish or wrinkle? Did He not die to purchase a special people to Himself, who would become the glorious Royal Priesthood, a warring priesthood after the order of the warring King and High Priest Melchizedek?

Jesus became the King and High Priest, and He became the Commander of the Armies of Heaven, leading us to war against the powers of darkness. His Royal Priesthood is not supposed to be made up of sickly and paralyzed people. The Bible explains that a priest had to be in perfect health to perform his duties. Same for the warriors of King David – they were mighty in valour and exploits; they were not sickly and paralysed! They were not blind either –they could see the enemy clearly, as they could also see the Glory of the Lord!

Many people who jump into those stirred up waters of the temporary awakenings, find themselves healed of ailments of all sorts, but when they walk away from the place of the outpouring, some (many?) lose their healing. Then people begin to criticise that the healings were not genuine, etc. because they fail to understand the scriptures - Jehovah Raffa, our God who is a Healer by nature, is not merely one who heals our diseases, but one who wants to walk with us, and for us to walk with Him, in perfect health and wholeness at all times {Scripture references Exod.15:26, Psalm 105:37, 3 John v.2} - that is what happens when His Shalom-Peace is in us as a permanent dwelling state.

If we live our lives as the rest of the world, even though we believe in Jesus, we still suffer as the rest of the world does, in the absence of God’s Kingdom and Power from our lives.

Hindsight comment: the greatest issue that many discerning disciples of Jesus had with the spiritual atmosphere of the Lakeland outpouring was that there was too more of the spirit of the world entertained through the meetings, and less of true holiness and seeking of God’s Face.

The only way to maintain good health at all times is if we have learned how to be priests upholding our duties, and, warriors of great valour. That is when His Shalom-Peace is in us; that is when we abide in His SHEKINAH presence at all times, as part of our daily lives.

SHEKINAH is usually translated as "glory", but it comes from the hebrew verb SHAKAN = to dwell - therefore "glory" is not an accurate translation of the word; the Hebrew word for glory is "kabod". The word SHEKINAH (=dwelling) does not exist in the scriptures per se, but it is the concept of God dwelling in the midst of His people (in the scriptures it appears only in verb form – brief teaching follows at the end of the message). There are different forms of "dwelling" and various levels of closeness-proximity of chambers within the dwelling-habitat.

Hindsight comment: many claimed that the Presence of God was in the Lakeland meetings. I was protesting all along against such statements. That was the Healing Hand of God, but His Presence COULD NOT have manifested in Lakeland – if His Presence had manifested, most would have run out of the door, some would have died, and few would be flat on their faces worshipping Him in Spirit and in Truth.

Am I speaking negatively about the outpouring at Lakeland FL? Absolutely NOT! What God pours out is always good! At the same time we need to understand that God pours out specific blessings for specific people and groups. All things are not equally good for all people at all times. The Anointing of the Lord operates differently at different times, different places, for different people groups; it all depends on what the Lord wants to do in each particular situation, and He wants us to understand how to discern the times, the seasons, and the moves of the Holy Spirit.

What I believe some of us need to seek is not merely a temporary stirring for a limited manifestation of God's glory, but an on-going dwelling of the Lord in close proximity, whereby, the resulting manifestation of His dwelling with us can be an on-going outpouring of His glorious power for transformation of people and land.

That is possible only through a true “House of Prayer”, of the nature of David's “Tent on Mount Zion” - i.e. it is more than a place of prayer. It is a place of intimate worship and close encounter, where His Peace manifests, following His dwelling Presence. Because of the worship and intimate ministry on to the Lord in the “Tent on Mount Zion”, King David was established as a mighty King during his reign. That is a symbolism of how the reign of Jesus is also to be established in each location!

It is the "Tent of David" that the Lord has promised to build up again, so that His “Royal Priesthood” can continually perform our duty of ministering on to the Lord {Scriptures references 1 Peter 2:9 and Acts 13:2}.

By his stripes we were healed, but He did not promise to build hospitals for multitudes of spiritually blind, sickly and paralysed sheep, where God would continually minister to their needs. He promised to build a Church of

1) priests that would minister on to Him in the Tent of the meeting, inside His courts, and

2) warriors who would charge against the gates of Hades, and those gates would not be able to prevail against the mighty army of the Lord!

A big difference that we are called to understand through this message is the difference between “us as priests ministering to the Lord” and “the Lord ministering to the people through us”.

The awakenings are good to awaken the people to the need to turn to the Lord, and they are significant steps towards building up a priesthood and a mighty army for the Lord. They however remain no more than temporary stirring up of waters. With reference to Pensacola and other locations of prior outpourings - good as they were, they failed to transform the church in the region and the land - i.e. neither the Body, nor, the land were healed! (ref. 2 Chron.7:14).

Hindsight comment: I know that many were touched in many ways through the Lakeland outpouring, but it is clear that there was no power of transformation of the church, except in a negative way: now the Church has become even more suspicious, even more afraid and even more reserved in the face of supernatural signs, wonders and miracles. A spirit of disbelief has now penetrated the Body of Christ even more than before.

For the Body of Christ and the land to be healed we need a different kind of outpouring – we need the true “KABOD” glory of the Lord, which is only poured out within the “Tent” of the meeting with the dwelling Presence of the Lord, where His Royal Priesthood offers the ministry duty on to the Lord.

KABOD is a word that is derived from the word KABED which means HEAVY. Indeed the manifest dwelling Presence of the Lord (i.e. SHEKINAH) carries a certain weight with it, which makes us feel a degree of (good) heaviness in the “air” and often causes us to flatten ourselves on the ground – that is His Glory.

This particular outpouring of His glory CANNOT by definition be made available to the outsiders, or, the lukewarm believers who do not abide inside the Tent in the courts of God, but live their lives in the world (spiritually speaking). Only those who ascend the hill, only those who "enter into His courts and go through the gates" can come to the place of His SHEKINAH presence and experience His KABOD glory – Scriptures references:

Psalm 15:1 (NKJV) Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?

Psalm 24:3 (NKJV) Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place?

The SHEKINAH is for His Royal Priesthood, i.e. the people who perform their priestly duties before the great King (ref. the priesthood of Zadok in Ezekiel 44) - those people who enter into His courts, who go through the gates, who ascend the hill, who abide in His tabernacle, who come to stand in His Holy place!

If we can understand that the holiness of God cannot be made known by the world; that there is a difference between God touching people in the world and priests touching the Face of God inside His Holy place; then, we can understand that neither the SHEKINAH, nor, the KABOD are poured out at Lakeland now, or, Pensacola before.

What is poured out for the multitudes of the spiritually sickly, blind and paralyzed sheep is a degree of God’s power for healing our mortal bodies and touching our wounded emotions. All that is meant to reveal His Mercy in the face of sin and His Grace that is quick to forgive if we repent. As already said: that is GOOD! But not sufficient for those who want the Person of God, those who seek His Face!

Psalm 24:6 (NKJV) This [is] Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him,

Who seek Your face. Selah

Psalm 27:7 (NKJV) Hear, O Lord, [when] I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me. 8 [When] [You] [said], "Seek My face," My heart said to You, "Your face, Lord, I will seek."

Hosea 5:14 (NKJV) For I [will] [be] like a lion to Ephraim, And like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, [even] I, will tear [them] and go away; I will take [them] away, and no one shall rescue. 15 I will return again to My place

Till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me." 6:1 Come, and let us return to the Lord; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.

With reference back to John 15, the man to whom Jesus appeared was the only one who met with Jesus by the pool. The multitudes failed to meet with Him, to listen to Him, to receive from Him. That man went to the temple after becoming well (v. 14), which indicates that during his 38 years of infirmity he became a God-fearing man.

I understand why people say that America needs an awakening, or, revival. But I would suggest that what we all need more is to turn back to the Lord with all our heart, and in godly fear desire to come to a personal encounter with the King, instead of waiting for some angel to come down and stir the waters up for us here and there.

According to the testimony of Todd Bentley, his ministry was birthed out of months of spending hours each day in the presence of the Lord. That is the call of God for all of us at this time! Each one who would care to spend hours in the presence of God can become a useful vessel in the Hands of God for a mighty outpouring of His power.

The outpourings of Mercy & Grace are very important for the sheep to be drawn to the Shepherd, but, may I dare a proposal? Those individuals who have been drawn by the Shepherd long ago, are supposed to have become living testimonies of God's mercy and grace for others to see and follow - they are not merely sheep any longer, because they are supposed to have been transformed to shepherds for other sheep to follow their example.

Those who are called to enter into their priestly roles and minister to the King in the “Tent” of the meeting, even when they go to the places of awakening, even though they may be touched briefly, they will still return to the same need and perhaps dryness they had prior to going.

I have come to know, and I simply say what I know: the people who are called to go to the deeper parts of the river and swim in the deep waters, shall never quench their thirst and need when they walk in the knee-deep shallow waters...

The knee-deep waters are wonderful for the people for the sake of whom God pours out His mercy and grace, but it shall never be enough for those who want to walk with God, those who want to see Him Face to Face. I am saying that the outpouring of Lakeland is extraordinary and desirable, but perhaps not as good for everyone – it depends on where our walk with God has taken us at this point in our lives.

America has some wonderful places and ministries of the type of "Zadok priesthood" and "Tent of David" worship, but they remain too few for such a great country. It is also interesting to note that people do not run en masse to the locations where there is an on-going SHEKINAH presence (and resulting KABOD Glory). The touch of God in such places is as powerful, more real and more effectual for transformation than the places of temporary outpourings. Still, people do not regard highly such places, and such places tend to remain rather unknown.

The Lord wants to pour out a very specific revival in the USA - an outpouring of "Tents of David" established in every place where there are people who truly seek His Face and want to see His Kingdom come. The King's (royal) priesthood needs to respond to the Lord in and for each location - it is the process of transformation of the Church into her real calling; it is what the Lord wants to do in our time and generation.

Here is a call and a challenge that I feel I need to present: if you are a mature disciple of Jesus, and have desired to go to Lakeland, you would need to set aside few days, and budget the required expenses. Let's say it would cost about $500 and 5 days altogether - you would have to work out the particulars in your case.

Here is an alternative that would apply to all who ought to be spiritually mature by now – all for whom this message was written; all who have a deep desire to know the Lord and serve Him with fear and gladness: set that fund aside to be given as a sacrificial offering to the Lord (as He will instruct you if you ask Him). Then lock yourself up in a house, or, a room, or, a retreat center, or, somewhere in some sort of wilderness for as many days as it would take you to go to Lakeland and return home.

As you set yourself apart for that period of time, make sure you have good worship music available and your Bible with a note pad (or laptop or something). Then spend all that time worshipping the Lord and waiting on Him - no mobile phones allowed - no radio or TV - no communication at all with any one! Just you and the Lord!

All alone, for all those hours, for all those days, with nothing else to do than to wait on Him and worship Him, and then keeping notes of all that He said and all that you experienced. I can assure you that if you would do that, it would be one of the most memorable experiences with God in your lifetime, and it would bear far more long term fruit than if you would go to Lakeland, or, any other place of outpouring.

Hindsight comment: Here is what I was trying to say even from the start of the outpouring, but in a covert and a positive way: if you want to go to Lakeland, DON’T go! There are better things to do…

To note, those who shy away from the Presence and Person of God but are quick to run to places of spiritual outpourings are at risk of being judged for idolatry. If we have NO confidence in our personal relationship with Him, and in His desire and love for us, so that each time we dedicate time to go to Him and stand in His Presence we can expect without doubt that He will reveal Himself to us and speak with us;

- then, if we put our confidence that we shall be touched in some location where something is stirred up;

- then, that becomes a statement of the faith we have in our heart, which is like saying: "I believe that the Lord will NOT come to meet me when I go to Him; that is why I need to go somewhere that I know He is on the move".

For spiritual babies and the spiritually underdeveloped it is good to go to places of outpouring along with the multitudes of the sickly and paralyzed. But if the mature go to those places instead of going to their own personal meeting place with the Lord, then the locations of outpouring may be for those people like the "high places where Israel burned incense" and committed harlotry with other gods, seeking spiritual experiences and power.

Yes, it is far easier and more fun to go and watch others used of God, and become fascinated by what is happening, rather than giving all our time and energy to ministering on to the Lord, worshipping Him and seeking His Face. But we need to remember this: as much as God’s outpouring is good for some, it can also be a stumbling block for others to stumble and fall.

If our need to become fascinated and amused is greater than our need to serve the Lord with humility, fear and gladness, then an outpouring that is a blessing for others may become a snare for us to be caught in, so that the truth of our heart be exposed.

Let me say the same thing with simplicity but also clarity: God’s wonderful outpouring of love, mercy and grace for the healing of the little sheep, is NOT a cure for the apathy and fall away of those who have given up their first love of the Lord, those who have failed to respond to the call of God for ministry on to Him, those who have given up their priestly duty and have laid aside their warring weapons.

A brief teaching follows on the different operations of the Anointing

Ezekiel 44 reveals that ministry to the Lord is an entirely different subject to ministry to people. The entire chapter and complete message must be understood for better clarity, but the following verses show the need for differentiation of ministry and focus:

Ezek 44:10 (NKJV) " And the Levites who went far from Me, when Israel went astray, who strayed away from Me after their idols, they shall bear their iniquity. 11 "Yet they shall be ministers in My sanctuary, [as] gatekeepers of the house and ministers of the house; they shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister to them. 12 "Because they ministered to them before their idols and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity, therefore I have raised My hand in an oath against them," says the Lord God, "that they shall bear their iniquity.

13 "And they shall not come near Me to minister to Me as priest, nor come near any of My holy things, nor into the Most Holy [Place]; but they shall bear their shame and their abominations which they have committed. 14 "Nevertheless I will make them keep charge of the temple, for all its work, and for all that has to be done in it.

15 "But the priests, the Levites, the sons of Zadok, who kept charge of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, they shall come near Me to minister to Me; and they shall stand before Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood," says the Lord God. 16 "They shall enter My sanctuary, and they shall come near My table to minister to Me, and they shall keep My charge.

19 "When they go out to the outer court, to the [outer] court to the people, they shall take off their garments in which they have ministered, leave them in the holy chambers, and put on other garments; and in their holy garments they shall not sanctify the people.

The preceding text explains it clearly: there are ministers to the people, who are not allowed to minister on to God. Even those who are allowed to minister on to God, are not allowed to do so in the same garments – they have to change the garments of ministry.

In other words: we cannot mix the two streams of anointing and glory – we cannot minister on to God and to people at the same time. We need to know the difference between when the Lord is calling us to Himself, to minister on to Him, in seclusion and separation from the world, and when He wants to use us to minister to the people.

It is therefore clear that the outpourings on locations where God ministers healing to the people are manifestations of God outside of His courts.

-----------------------------------

The symbolism of the Tabernacle of Moses in the desert and of the Tent of David on Mount Zion reveals to us that the Presence of the Lord comes out from the Holy of Holies and becomes manifest in the earthly realm. King David received Royal Authority through the Tent of Worship and ministry onto the Lord on Mount Zion. That is how he became able to defeat all his enemies and establish peace and prosperity in the land during his reign.

For all that to happen, the key remains: ministry on to God, ministry of the type in the Holy of Holies, ministry that only sanctified and undefiled priests (ref. ‘Zadok’ type of dedicated and consecrated priesthood) are allowed to offer to the Lord.

People confuse the different types of outpouring of God’s glory. There is an outpouring that manifests His power among the unbelievers, so that He would defeat the powers of darkness and draw the people to Himself. Signs and wonders, healings and deliverance follow such outpouring among the unbelievers in the world (that is what is presently happening at Lakeland).

That outpouring is not related to the manifestation of His Holiness, which the people in the world would not understand or appreciate anyhow. It is merely raw power released from heaven in order to confront and break the powers of darkness, which operate in the world and in the lives of the “sheep” of God.

There is another, totally different type of manifestation of God’s glory – that is not a revelation of raw power, but the revealed Presence of God (Shekinah) who dwells among His people and His Shalom and prosperity manifests in their daily lives, lived in His Holiness and separation from the world.

Here is what the academic resources teach us about the Shekinah of God.

Nave’s Topical #4457: SHEKINAH -The visible sign of God's presence on the ark of the testimony in the Holy of Holies #Ex 25:22 Le 16:2 2Sa 6:2 2Ki 19:14,15 Ps 80:1 Isa 37:16 Eze 9:3 10:18

New Bible Dict #1850: "SHEKINAH. The Shekinah (Heb. saek¼nÝ), the radiance, glory or presence of God dwelling in the midst of his people, is used by Targumist and Rabbi to signify God Himself… "

"The Shekinah, nearest Jewish equivalent to the Holy Spirit, became, with other OT ideas or derivatives (Word, Wisdom, Spirit, etc.) a bridge between man's corporeality and God's transcendence. The term is post-biblical, but the concept saturates both Testaments. It underlies the teaching that God dwells in his sanctuary # Ex 25:8, etc., or among his people # Ex 29:45, etc.. "

"These and cognate passages use the root verb saúkan, "to dwell', from which Shekinah is derived. The glory of God (kabod in the Heb. Bible, doxa in LXX and NT) is another name for the Shekinah. The Heb. and Gk. words may be applied to the glory of mere human beings, such as Jacob."

Example of a scripture using the verb shakan

Ezra 6:12 (NKJV) And may the God who causes His name to dwell <07931 shakan> there destroy any king or people who put their hand to alter it, or to destroy this house of God which is in Jerusalem. I Darius issue a decree; let it be done diligently.

KJS Dict: 07931 shakan {shaw-kan'} a primitive root [apparently akin (by transmission) to 07901 through the idea of lodging]; TWOT - 2387; v AV - dwell 92, abide 8, place 7, remain 5, inhabit 4, rest 3, set 2

NASB Dict: 07931. shakan or shaken; a prim. root; to settle down, abide, dwell

What we learn from the Tabernacle about the types of the Anointing

The model of the Tabernacle of Moses reveals God’s different modes of operation, or, types of anointing, or, methods, or, types of flow of the anointing.

There are 5 distinct stages, or, locations, identified by the Tabernacle. Each of those five locations were copies that represent, or, explain (among other things), the spiritual operation accomplished in the New Testament through the 5 ministries (ref. Eph. 4:11).

1 – Outside of the Outer Court

The Evangelistic Anointing operates among the people in the world, revealing to them the Love and Power of God through signs, wonders, miracles, healings, deliverance.

2 – Inside the Court, at the Brazen Altar of Sacrifice

The Pastoral Anointing leads, teaches, helps people to present themselves as living sacrifice before the Lord, so that the flesh may be burned at the altar of sacrifice.

3 – Before the Holy place, at the Water Basin

The Teaching Anointing pours out the water – which is the Word of God – through which the Church is cleansed and purified (by the washing of the water through the word).

4 – Inside the Tent, at the Holy (Place)

The Prophetic Anointing ministers before the Lord through singing and intercession, keeping the Candlestick aflame (so that the Holy Spirit flows in the Church), releasing the incense of prayers before the Lord, and sanctifying the Bread of Life (which brings life to the Church).

{In fact, those 3 items in the Holy place may indicate 3 different areas of focus of the prophetic ministry – or, even perhaps 3 different types of prophets in the Church: some focus on the Holy Spirit, some focus on intercession, and some focus on the Bread of Life}.

5 – Inside the Holy of Holies (at the Throne of God)

The Apostlolic Anointing, that represents the Headship and Royal Authority of Jesus Christ, standing before the Throne of God receives the commission, instructions, and authority to lead the Church to war against the enemy. Through the Apostles the Lord releases His Shekinah among the people who are being sanctified, so that He may dwell in the midst of them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The outpouring at Lakeland FL is a genuine and wonderful move of God, but we need to understand that it is happening for those who are outside of the Outer Court.

Whilst God is touching those who are outside, He is equally inviting those who are expected to be inside the courts to more intimate relationship, to more faithful service in the context of Royal Priesthood, to more alertness and availability for battles (against the host of wickedness in the heavenly places).

As much as the Lord is interested in touching and building up His Church, He remains equally interested in restoring the fallen “Tent of David” in each location, which requires a faithful and committed priesthood that is willing to serve the plans and purposes of the Kingdom of God, under the instruction and direction of the High Priest, Jesus Christ.
