Brief word on prophecies warning of God’s judgment
upon the USA
By George E. Markakis, August 2004
I do not discard all the prophecies warning of
imminent judgment of the Lord God upon the USA, because of much sin practiced
in the land. I do, however, encourage the re-examination of those prophecies in
the light of a more balanced perspective.
Judgment is inevitable upon all sin, surely. At the
same time, however, the extent and timing of chastising is determined in
conjunction with the church's intercession and supplication on behalf of the
land.
I understand there is so much talk about God's
judgment upon America as a continent (it is more than a country, isn't it!). It
is true that God judges nations and lands, but it is equally true that the
battleground is the individual soul, family, and all the way up to community
level. It usually takes many generations before the Lord addresses a nation and
a continent. I personally do not believe there will be any major shifting of
America any time soon. What will be shifted will be the fears and insecurities
of people. Indeed things may happen, but they will help people turn to God,
rather than devastate the land. God is in the restoration business, not
devastation.
Often the question is not the prophetic word, but its
expression, and, interpretation. There is one nation in the globe that
practically blesses Israel, and that is the USA. God has promised to bless
those who bless Israel, and so does America, and therefore He is blessing, and
He will be blessing even more! I do not see the wrath of God upon the nation
coming any time soon - as long as USA is supporting Israel, blessings and
abundance will be overflowing in the land. If the Lord would give up on the
USA, He would practically be giving up on His chosen land, where HE has called
His Name and sealed with His promises.
At the same time, America is presently experiencing a
form of revival in the Church, on a continental basis. The USA also support a
lot of missions work abroad. God will not bring all that to a halt - His heart
to bring increase upon increase, rather than destroy and stop.
Isolated instances of death and destruction may indeed
occur, as they already have, but that is inevitable at times of war - America
is at war, and casualties are to expected. However a bomb here and there, or
equivalent forms of terrorism do not constitute God's judgment upon a nation.
That level of judgment causes an entire people to be devastated, and a culture
to be wiped out (e.g. Aztecs, Incas, Minoans, Atlantis, etc.) America is far
from such judgment.
At the same time, the Church in the USA has a strong
and growing intercessory movement of “priests” after the order of the
High-Priest Jesus Christ, who intercede on behalf of their land, their people,
and their government; that helps in reducing the level of iniquity in the cup,
where God measures the iniquity of a land/nation. When the cup spills over,
judgement is released from heaven, but, as long as the intercession of the royal
priesthood keeps the cup from spilling over, judgement is averted or postponed
for a later generation; the Bible is full of teaching in that area.
Moreover, excellent Church leaders who practically
constitute God’s present government of His Body for the USA are highly
supportive of the country’s major and overall direction in policy and
practices. As long as God has His own government established in a land, and
even more so, one that is aligned with the physical government of the land, God
will not intervene to break such a holy alliance. His interventions are only to
cause directional changes that lead to better alignment between heaven and
earth.
What many Americans are really afraid of is losing
their present level of welfare and prosperity. Well, some of it may indeed
collapse on individual basis and local community level, but the nation will
remain strong in general. Sudden shifts at that level do not occur. Even the
2nd World War did not happen overnight. It was cooking for years. Global
changes are the effect of decades of gradual shifting.
I would strongly encourage you to read a document that
I am hosting on my website, because it is so good and relevant to what we are
saying here: The World Is Getting Better.htm. You may find it at http://www.cdrm.org/CDRM/propheticwords.asp
The Lord is allowing prophecies of warning to go
around because He wants to draw our attention away from materialism. But money
and prosperity are also redeemable and usable for God's glory, and that is
God's purpose even through the warnings.
At the same time, prophetic utterance is highly
influenced, or altogether shaped through the individual’s perceptions,
vocabulary, doctrinal background and personal theology. Many prophets need
foundational rearrangement of their emotional responses to what the Spirit
bears witness in their hearts, before they utter the words of the Spirit
without substantial influence through their own intellect.
If there is one thing I would surely agree that God is
going to shake and change in the USA is His own Church. His Church will indeed
be severely judged for her harlotry with the gods of this world. If there is
one form of death that will grow and devastate the land, that is the
(spiritual) death which God will continue to release within His own Church, as
He has promised in the last Epistle of the Bible.
Revelation
2:20 "Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that
woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants
to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 "And I
gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22
"Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with
her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 "I
will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I
am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you
according to your works.
Many mistake the message to be received through the
many dying churches; it is not the work of Satan – it is the work of God. As He
said:
1 Peter
4:17 For the time [has] [come] for judgment to begin at the house of God; and
if [it] [begins] with us first, what will [be] the end of those who do not obey
the gospel of God?
Many mistake the message to be received through the
prophecies warning of judgment; they are not for the land of America – they are
for the Lord’s Body in America. He will continue to chastise and correct, until
He has made His Body holy and separated on to Him.
Shalom and blessings!
